Tales of the Abyss – Episode 1

First Impressions

The first time I saw the episode, I was amazed with the high quality animation and graphics! I also love how the characters are set in a tag-along party scheme, in other words, as the series progresses, the more characters will join the band. Come to think of it, this reminded me a lot about a certain piece of literature I was reading backduring my AP Literature class. It’s called Canterbury Tales by the way, in case you want to check it out.

Normally, I would have low expectations from anime series that sprout out of a game, like World Destruction for example, but this series has a very high potential for my interests!

Since two episodes were released in the same week, a blog about the second episode will be posted very soon.

Summary (of Sorts)

  • The world in which Tales of the Abyss is set on Auldrant, a planet which revolves around the existence of elemental particles known as Fonims. Initially, only six kinds of Fonims were known to exist which include Shadow, Earth, WInd, Water, Fire, and Light. At one point, a seventh kind of Fonim is discovered – a kind of Fonim that can grant the ability to see the future. With it’s discovery, various nations came to be, and the same time, came to pass.
  • Yulia Jue happens to be one of the able users of the seventh Fonim. In the past she is most remembered for her prediction based on the Score, a set path to the future in which all are fated to abide. The secrecy of Yulia Jue’s prediction is protected by the faith of the Lorelai religion.
  • The present world is under a fall sense of peace maintained by two polarized supernations, one being the Kingdom of Kimlasca while the other being the Malkuth Empire.
  • Luke fone Fabre is the son of the duke of Kimuelasca Lanvaldear. We later learn of his inability to have any recollections prior to his mysterious kidnapping seven years ago. Much more to that, the episode hints of his connection to the seventh Fonim.
